OI Indonesia Introduction

Although known as the world’s largest Muslim nation, compared to other countries there is not a great deal of information concerning the Republic of Indonesia available in the U.S. or Europe. There is even less on the Celebes Islands, or Sulawesi.   Literature specifically about the Province of North Sulawesi’s Minahasa region is comparatively nonexistent.

From Batik to Lord Jim, to the TV show Survivor, to “Surabaya Johnny,” the world knows more about Indonesia than it may realize. This is partially because many people do not realize that its parts — Java, Sumatra, Bali, Borneo, Timor, the Mulaccas, the Spice Islands, the Dutch East Indies and the Celebes Islands — equal the whole: Indonesia.

Yayasan Orphans International Indonesia is a not-for-profit, non-governmental organization (“NGO” or “yayasan”) incorporated in the Republic of Indonesia in 2001, and an independent affiliate of Orphans International Worldwide, in full compliance of the OIWW Global Standards.
