OI Sri Lanka Introduction

Orphans International Sri Lanka ("OISL") was founded in August 2006 and has been incorporated and registered. It is structured as a Sri Lankan volunteer social service organization, advised by and under the supervision of its Board of Directors.

OISL was conceived by Thomas and Donna Cohen of New Jersey, parents-in-law of Dr. Cresenta Fernando, a Sri Lankan native who was swept away by the Tsunami of December 26, 2004.  Kathaluwa Education & Life Skills Centre In Loving Memory of Dr. Cresenta L. Fernando will be named in his memory.  Cresenta’s widow Ariele Cohen, Esq. is co-president of the OISL Board of Directors with Rajiv Mallick, Ph.D.

Wendy Budin, Ph.D., R.N. and Arnold Budin, Esq. established the first Orphans International chapter in America—New Jersey—specifically to raise awareness of the Sri Lanka project.  Gloria Starr Kins, C.E.O. of the Kins Group, Ltd., has also joined the effort to fund OI Sri Lanka.  OI Worldwide founder Jim Luce is a member of the boards of both OI America and OI Sri Lanka.
