In September 2004, Hurricane Jeanne caused major flooding and mudslides in the city of Gonaives, west of the capital Port-au-Prince.  Over 3,000 people were confirmed dead.  Every building in the city was damaged by the storm, and 250,000 people were left homeless.

Our children receive round-the-clock care and emotional support from our local staff. They attend school full time.  Nearly all the children were several years behind in school before joining OI Haiti, but now attend the best school in the area and receive additional individualized instruction at home.

As we expand our work in Haiti, OI Family Care will quadruple our capacity to serve more disadvantaged children and their families.

OI Haiti is in partnership with the UNSRC Aux Antilles, and was opened its doors in 2005 in response to the damages caused by Hurricane Jeanne.
